Set in the scenic foothills of the Western Ghats and sprawled across 1000 acres, Kovai Hills is truly a breathtaking golf-centric township in Coimbatore.
The Kovai Hills 18-hole championship Golf Course has been designed for players of all skill levels. The main course is a par 72 course over 7,000 yards long. Each hole maintains its own unique character. From the classic Par 5, 8th hole, with it’s rocky sloping fairway representing a micro-landscape of the whole site, to the island green Par 3, 5th hole, which features an all-or-nothing shot from tee to green over water. This hole, in particular, is landscaped to perfection.
Nallas are brought into play on the 9th hole, and on the 13th, the undulating land is used to give advantageous positioning for those hitting their ideal target. Large lakes request careful consideration of the golfer’s ability and nerve on the 2nd, and particularly on the finishing stretch of the 18th.
Strategically placed rolling bunkers catch the eye, throughout the course, demanding absolute concentration in coordinating hand and eye. However, handling the ever-changing gailing winds that prevail in the area is what will be the golfers true test at Kovai Hills.
The emerald green turf is set within a framework of palms, neem and other greens that are indigenous to the area. A well-planned system of irrigation and drainage is in place, to keep the course dry in the monsoon and lush green in high summer. The ‘ecologically-friendly’ hybrid strain, paspalum grass has been used on the golf course, allowing impure water to be used for irrigation, all the while providing a top-class surface.
Kovai Hills Golf Academy:
The academy is a first-of-its-kind facility in South India with a comprehensive practice and coaching centre. Amateurs and professionals alike can learn the game under the team of dedicated and experienced teaching professionals. Golf Director – Commander (Retd) S. Gangadhar, a retired navy veteran is quite the die-hard fan of the game, he’s extremely passionate about teaching and sharing his wealth of knowledge. Sivamoorthy, Senior Coach, is an I.G.U Class A Teaching Professional.
Swing Analysis Room: The swing analysis room is fitted with a high-speed camera and the latest and most reliable Golf Teaching Software V1 Pro. This helps players get a clear visual of their swings by viewing themselves on an LCD screen, thereby getting a better understanding of their swing flaws.
Driving Range: The driving range is 315 Yards long and has tee boxes on either side; the southern tee to play with the wind and the northern tee to play against the wind. The driving range can accommodate, keeping in mind European PGA standard safety margins, 40 golfers on either side.
The Par 3 course consisting of 9-holes, constructed similar to the main course, gives the complete test to a professional golfer’s short game; or an hour’s light relief for the regular golfer; or the first taste of a full game to the novice.
